The Yukon Experience

Beskrivelse

Gold was discovered in the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western Canada in 1896. The news hit the US cities of Seattle and San Francisco the following year and a mass migration to the north was set in motion. It is estimated that 100,000 people scrambled  to the Yukon in search of a plot of land rich with gold. Around 30,000 actually made it there but only a few succeeded in finding gold. Even more left the Yukon as poor as they arrived and some perished trying their luck in this inhospitable region.
The book is designed in such a way that it can be used at several educational levels in English and History classes in upper secondary or high school, as well as further education colleges and adult education centres, or in interdisciplinary courses.
By working through the book, the reader will get a picture of why so many chose to risk life and limb in search of gold and what conditions they lived under in the period of history known as the Gold Rush. The reader will be working with the app Videoscribe for digital storytelling, iMovie to make news broadcasts on gold discoveries in the Klondike, Explain Everything for a presentation of how the gold rush is present in our lives today and much more.
