How much energy does the body need? What happens if you consume too much or too little energy? How do we eat properly and get the right balance of nutrients in the food we consume? In order to answer these questions, you have to know about the mathematical calculation of percentages, fractions and decimals.
In the course of the book, the reader works towards an understanding of percentages, fractions and decimals through concrete issues of diet and health. The reader will, among other things, be able to calculate BMI, the nutritional content of foods, diet composition and whether energy intake is too high or too low. In this way, the reader gains an understanding of the mathematical relationship between percentages, fractions and decimals.
The book is designed to be used at several levels of mathematics teaching in secondary schools (grades 6 – 10 in USA), upper secondary or high school, as well as further education colleges and adult education centres or in interdisciplinary courses or projects related to the subjects of diet and health.
